Description
Amazing stories stored in the rocks come to life at Knockan Crag National Nature Reserve (NNR) a visitor attraction in the North West Highlands Geopark where we guarantee you an earth-moving experience. Its hard not to get excited about rocks and geology at Knockan Crag. It holds the key to an amazing story of colliding continents and scientific intrigue.
The low cliff of Knockan exposes rocks that set the scientific world ablaze in the 19th century. The Moine Thrust, as it is known, was created by the force of two continents crashing together many millions of years ago.
Whenever you choose to visit Knockan Crag youll find something new to inspire you. There is stunning sculpture and the evocative poetry of Norman MacCaig carved into the rock. And there is always breathtaking scenery and a sense of Scotlands ancient history.

Right at the beginning of the walk are some walls where the story of those rock formations are, which is really interesting. The walk itself isn't too easy because there are a lot of rocky steps on the way up and down. I did the big walk and it took me about 1,5 hours but it was really icy at some parts. If you're careful it's still good to walk. The views are definitely worth it! The toilets are good maintained
